Firearms World FAQ

1. What types of firearms and related products do you offer?

We retail a full range of firearms and accessories including handguns, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, primers, powders, scopes, brass casings, and reloading components to meet the needs of hunters, sport shooters, and enthusiasts.

2. How do I legally purchase a firearm from your website?

All firearms sales comply with federal and state laws. Firearms must be shipped directly to a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer near your location where you will complete the required paperwork and background check. No firearms are shipped directly to buyers.

3. What are primers and why are they important?

Primers are small components in ammunition that ignite the gunpowder inside the cartridge when struck by the firing pin. They create the initial spark needed to fire the bullet. Primers come in various sizes and types depending on the ammunition caliber and firearm type.

4. Can I use rifle primers in pistol ammunition and vice versa?

No. Rifle and pistol primers are specifically designed for their respective ammunition and are not interchangeable. Using the wrong primer can lead to unsafe pressure levels and malfunction of the firearm.

5. How do I reload my ammunition safely?

Reloading requires knowledge of components such as cases, primers, powders, and bullets. Always use reloading data from trusted manuals, use components that match your firearm caliber, never substitute Magnum primers unless specified, and follow best safety practices to avoid dangerous pressures.

6. What are the waiting periods for firearm purchases?

Waiting periods vary by state and local jurisdiction. Some states require a mandatory holding period for background checks or safety courses before you can take possession of your firearm.

7. Is a firearms license required to purchase or own firearms?

Licensing requirements vary widely. Most states require a Firearms Safety Certificate or license to purchase, carry, or possess firearms. Check your local and state regulations for exact requirements.

8. How can I track my order status?

You can log in to your account on our website and check your order status directly. If your order includes firearm shipment, it is sent to your local FFL where you will be notified when ready for pickup.

10. Are there any special rules for buying gunpowder and primers?

Yes, purchase of powders and primers require the buyer to be legally eligible to possess firearms and comply with all laws. Some states may restrict shipment or require permits. Always verify your local laws.

9. Can I buy ammunition and reloading supplies online?

Yes, ammunition and reloading supplies such as primers, powders, and brass casings are available for purchase online and can be shipped to your address subject to federal and state regulations.

11. What should I do if my firearm is lost or stolen?

Immediately report the loss or theft to local law enforcement. Some jurisdictions require reporting within a specific time frame. Maintaining firearm records helps in such cases.

12. What is a squib load and why is it dangerous?

A squib load occurs when a bullet fails to exit the barrel due to insufficient powder ignition, often caused by a weak primer or improper reloading. This can cause barrel obstruction and lead to firearm damage or injury if another round is fired without clearing it.

Ordering, Payment & Accounts

Do you offer volume or military/LEO discounts?

We value our community. We do offer special pricing for bulk ammunition purchases and for verified military and law enforcement personnel. Please contact our sales team for more information and verification procedures.

Why was my order delayed or placed on hold?

For the safety of all our customers and to comply with federal law, all orders are subject to verification. Occasionally, this requires a manual review which may cause a brief delay. This is a standard security procedure. We may also place a hold if we need to verify your shipping address or other order details. You will be notified via email if your order requires attention.

What payment methods do you accept?

For your convenience and security, we accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover), as well as debit cards. What are the restrictions on shipping ammunition, primers, and powder?

Due to federal hazardous materials (HAZMAT) regulations, shipping these items involves special handling and fees.

  • Ammunition: Cannot be shipped via air and must go via ground service. It cannot be shipped to PO Boxes, APO/FPO addresses, or certain states and localities with restrictive laws (e.g., CA, NY, Chicago, NYC). You must be 21+ to purchase.
  • Primers & Powder: Require a mandatory HAZMAT fee per shipment. These items are strictly regulated, and we cannot ship them to all locations.

Please check our Shipping Policy Page for a comprehensive, state-by-state breakdown before ordering.

How do I order a firearm? What is an FFL?

When you purchase a firearm from us, it must be shipped to a licensed dealer in your state, known as an FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee). Here’s the simple process:

  1. Find an FFL: Use our FFL Finder Tool or contact a local gun store in your area.
  2. Place Your Order: Select your firearm and proceed to checkout.
  3. Provide FFL Details: During checkout, you will provide your chosen FFL’s information.
  4. We Coordinate Shipping: We will ship the firearm directly to your chosen FFL.
  5. Complete the Transfer: Once it arrives, you will go to the FFL to complete the mandatory federal background check (Form 4473) and take possession of your firearm. The FFL will charge a transfer fee for this service.

Do you offer international shipping?

No. Firearms World complies with all U.S. export laws. We only ship products within the continental United States, and all sales are subject to U.S. federal, state, and local laws.

Returns, Warranty & Support

Is the warranty handled by Firearms World or the manufacturer?

Firearms World acts as the retailer. The manufacturer provides the warranty on all new firearms and optics. If you receive a defective product, contact us immediately, and we will help you initiate the manufacturer’s warranty process.

What is your return policy?

Your satisfaction is our priority. Please see our full Return Policy for details, but here are the key points:

  • Unopened/Unused Items: Most non-firearm items (scopes, accessories, unopened ammo) can be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange.
  • Firearms: Due to the nature of the product, returns on firearms are generally only accepted if they are defective or damaged upon receipt. You must contact us within 48 hours of taking possession from your FFL. All firearm returns require a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number.
  • Ammunition, Primers, & Powder: For safety reasons, these are FINAL SALE and cannot be returned once they leave our facility.

Product & Technical Questions

Can you help me choose the right ammunition for my needs?

Absolutely. The right ammunition depends on your intended use:

  • Target Practice: Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) for cost-effectiveness.
  • Hunting: Soft Point (SP) or Hollow Point (HP) for controlled expansion.
  • Home Defense: Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) for personal defense.
Our product descriptions and Ammunition Selection Guide provide detailed recommendations.

How can I be sure a scope or accessory will fit my firearm?

Most modern rifles and shotguns come with a standardized mounting system, such as Picatinny or Weaver rails. Scopes mount to these rails using rings. Check your firearm’s specifications for its rail type. Our product pages specify the mounting requirements, and our Optics Mounting Guide can help you make the right choice.

I’m new to reloading. What do I need to get started?

Welcome to the rewarding world of reloading! A basic setup includes:

  1. Reloading Press: The cornerstone of your operation.
  2. Dies: Specific to the caliber you are reloading.
  3. Scale & Calipers: For precise measurements.
  4. Case Prep Tools: Trimmer, deburring tool, etc.
  5. Components: Brass, Primers, Powder, and Projectiles.
We offer several Starter Reloading Kits that bundle these essentials together.

What safety resources do you recommend?

Firearm safety is non-negotiable. We strongly encourage all our customers to:

  1. Memorize and practice the Four Universal Rules of Firearm Safety.
  2. Seek professional training from a certified instructor.
  3. Store all firearms and ammunition securely and separately, especially in homes with children.

What are the age requirements for purchase?

You must be:

  • 18+ to purchase rifles, shotguns, and long gun ammunition.
  • 21+ to purchase handguns, handgun ammunition, and all other ammunition (per our policy), as well as receivers/frames and other regulated items.
By placing an order, you certify that you are of legal age to purchase the items in your cart.

How do I know if a product is legal in my state/city?

It is the customer’s ultimate responsibility to be aware of and comply with all local, state, and federal laws. Laws regarding magazine capacity, firearm features, ammunition types, and more vary widely. We provide a resource page, but we cannot give legal advice. We recommend contacting your local law enforcement or an attorney if you are unsure.
